I had many drawings of horses and they filled my thoughts along with dogs which were my second love. Walking to school I would stop to pet the two farm horses that would come to the fence every morning. I dreamed night and day of owning a horse.
In reality I was not able to buy a horse but was lucky enough to have an uncle who managed a milking farm and I was able to visit on my school holidays. Yes the horse there was called Jennie. She was 16 hands tall and an ex thoroughbred. I was privileged to be able to ride her and spent many a day just walking her around the paddock.
My love of horses has never diminished over the years and drawing pictures of them for my grandchildren is a great joy. They, like many children are drawn to the horse and seem to have a natural affinity for them. Keeping children's dreams alive is well met by the commercial ventures available. there are many horse products available today from plastic farm animals to colorful ponies and everything in between. The love of horses will never die.
If you are looking at owning a horse of your own you should look deeply into it as it is a commitment that can be very time consuming. You can join many horse clubs and go riding at the horse riding ranches that are probably in your area. This way you can receive the great enjoyment without the responsibilities of actually owning a horse. Plus you will soon find out if owning a horse is actually for you. Even though horses are seldom used for work like they were in the past there are still many places in life for the horse to shine.
Uses Of The Horse
The first obvious use of the horse that comes to mind is the races. This million dollar business ensures horses will be around for many years to come. the second might be pony clubs or even police horses. The great drought horses are mostly for special occasions as their primary job has been taken over by tractors today. Show horses are still enjoyed by many along with the polo pony clubs and dressage clubs around the country. I believe that of all the animals no one has a bad thing to say about the horse.
